LITTLE CHAPEL
The first Chapel of Norwalk Hospital was dedicated in May 1956.

Little Chapel In the fall of 1952 a committee was appointed to develop a chapel in the Hospital. The Committee looked carefully at the chapel in the Stamford Hospital, with its lovely carvings, and at the large, handsome one in the Veterans' Hospital in New Haven. When they saw the small room assigned to us in the Norwalk Hospital they knew it presented a challenge.

Fortunately, a decorator was found and was invited to look at the room. She selected wallpaper, resembling a mural. It gave the feeling of distance - looking off toward a mountain. An Astrolabe was placed in front of it.

A "Book of Remembrance" was established. Monetary donations to the Little Chapel have been used to furnish and refurbish the Chapel. The most prominent being the seven tapestries, made my members of the Woman's Board. This entailed many hours of work. Tapestry The needlepoints symbolize many different religions and are on display in the Chapel. In addition, we selected several books on different Religions for we knew there were many ethnic groups within the city.

The Chapel has been relocated four times within the Hospital. It has remained a tranquil place for people to reflect. The Pastoral Committee utilizes it for bereavement and special spiritual services.

Formerly, several ministers from surrounding towns offered their time to conduct services for various groups on a Sunday morning. A yearly service was held in May with various clergy, nurses, trustees, medical staff, volunteers and members of the Woman's Board attending.

Today, the Little Chapel is still a quiet place for prayer and meditation.
